Guiding Star Collective's Flagship Series

Constellations

A space to gather, reflect, and grow together.

This is where Guiding Star Collective's work lives closest to the people it serves — five sessions, built to be sat through together, in community, with the door closed, the guard down, and enough light in the room to see each other clearly.

Why "Constellations"?

A room, not a stage.

Constellations is Rachel's flagship workshop series — the fullest expression of what Guiding Star Collective believes: that healing, advocacy, and accessibility aren't separate lessons, they're one ongoing conversation. Where a single training introduces a topic, Constellations sits with it — session after session, building trust as it builds knowledge.

Every session opens the same way: check in with each other, name what we're carrying in, and agree on how we'll treat one another before we go anywhere near the hard stuff.

A Safe Place

No criticism, judgment, or talking back — just space to be heard.

One Voice at a Time

Be respectful, be specific, and don't hoard the conversation.

"I" Statements

Everyone comes from a different walk of life — speak from your own.

The Series

Five sessions. One constellation.

Each session stands on its own, and builds on the one before it — from understanding what trauma does to the body, to naming power and control, to stepping into leadership within the community.

01

HerStory

Women, Power & the Stories That Shaped Us

A history lesson no one else is teaching — tracing violence against women from ancient law to the present day, then turning to the largely unknown Herstory of Deaf women who shaped the world without ever being fully seen in it.

  • How centuries of law and philosophy shaped what violence against women was allowed to look like
  • The overlooked Herstory of Deaf women — from Alice Cogswell to Gallaudet's first Deaf woman president
  • Building psychological safety so a hard history can be discussed honestly, without fear of judgment
  • Connecting that history to the movements and momentum of today

"We must understand the HERstory of women, and how our rights were violently taken away."

02

Behind the Trauma

Understanding What Happens to the Brain & Body

We start in the body — how the brain's alert system responds to threat, what trauma, compassion fatigue, and burnout actually feel like, and how to rebuild the brain's capacity for safety and resilience.

  • How the amygdala's "alarm system" disrupts memory, reasoning, and the ability to recall details
  • Recognizing the Four F's — Fight, Flight, Freeze, Fawn — and the signs of compassion fatigue and burnout
  • Building the brain's reward system back up through dopamine, oxytocin, and serotonin practices
  • Grounding tools participants leave with immediately: breathwork, the ABCs, sensory grounding

"You cannot pour from an empty cup. Your well-being matters too."

03

Fractured Light

Understanding Oppression & Violence

A direct, unflinching look at power and control in relationships — including the layers of hearing privilege and ASL privilege that show up uniquely within the Deaf community — and what community accountability actually requires of all of us.

  • The difference between healthy and unhealthy power dynamics in a relationship
  • Working through the Power & Control Wheel, including hearing privilege and ASL privilege
  • Shifting the question from "why didn't you leave?" to "why did you hurt this person?"
  • The Accountability Staircase — a real path from harm to repair

"Love is about giving freedom and power, not about gaining control or possession." — Jeffrey Fry

04

Power in the Room

Privilege, Boundaries & Professional Responsibility

Power isn't the problem — what we do with it is. This session names privilege plainly, teaches participants to set and hold real boundaries, and lays out what professional and bystander responsibility looks like in practice.

  • Understanding privilege, and the difference between the "center" and the "margin" in any room
  • Six types of boundaries — physical, emotional, time, communication, digital, material — and how to hold them
  • A practical process for setting a boundary and actually following through on it
  • What bystander and professional responsibility require when you witness harm

"Power in the room isn't about who has the most. It's about what you do with what you have."

05

Leadership Development

Growing Advocates & Leaders in Our Community

The series closes by turning reflection into action — what it actually looks like to volunteer, lead, and stay involved with Guiding Star Collective long after the last session ends.

  • What it looks like to be a "warm presence" — compassion, empathy, and belief in survivors
  • Real ways to get involved: board support, advocacy, hotline work, and community education
  • A full year's awareness calendar to plan outreach and connect local work to national movements
  • Concrete next steps — advanced sessions, new volunteer trainings, and future series

"Leadership doesn't require a title — it starts with showing up."

In Their Words

What it feels like in the room.

I would because it is a very important topic and a safe place to discuss different situations so we can keep this in mind while out in the field.

Keeping the audience engaged and clarifying terminology.

Excellent

Small breakout groups to discuss a scenario first, then debrief as a whole group.

Very knowledgeable presenter.

Excellent

I loved the discussions and open ended questions.

Open ended questions.
